About This Strategic Government Communications Training

Government communicators are being asked to do more with less: hold on to public trust while misinformation spreads, adopt AI responsibly, keep residents informed across more channels, and meet new accessibility requirements. These challenges are connected, and the agencies that are furthest along treat them as one communications strategy rather than separate projects.

This training brings together the communicators doing that work now. Through case studies, hands-on workshops, and candid discussion of what it actually costs, you will build a plan for public trust, AI governance, digital content, and accessibility that fits your agency’s staffing and budget. With ADA Title II compliance dates of April 26, 2027 and April 26, 2028, the time to start is now.

You will learn how to:

  • Protect public trust by responding quickly and credibly to misinformation and rumors.
  • Write an AI use policy that covers governance, disclosure, oversight, and accountability.
  • Train staff so AI skills and safeguards spread across your agency, not just one power user.
  • Build a digital content strategy that serves residents across web, social, email, and video, with plain language and accessibility built in.
  • Build a realistic ADA Title II compliance roadmap to meet your April 26, 2027 or April 26, 2028 deadline, scaled to your agency’s size, staffing, and budget.
  • Audit your website, documents, and social content and prioritize what to fix first.
  • Remediate PDFs, forms, and legacy documents without stalling day-to-day communications.
  • Make video, live streams, and public meetings accessible with captions, transcripts, and audio description.

Frequently Asked Questions About Strategic Government Communications

Who should attend Strategic Government Communications: Building Public Trust?+

Government communicators from federal, state, county and municipal agencies, including directors, managers, specialists and public information officers in public affairs, digital communications and content strategy, web and digital services, community engagement, crisis and emergency communications, internal and employee communications, AI and technology policy, and accessibility and ADA compliance.

What will I learn?+

You'll learn how to protect public trust by responding to misinformation quickly and credibly, write an AI use policy and train staff to use AI well, build a digital content strategy with plain language and accessibility built in, engage the communities you serve, and build a realistic ADA Title II roadmap scaled to your agency's size, staffing and budget.

Does the training cover the ADA Title II deadline?+

Yes. The ADA Title II rule sets WCAG 2.1 Level AA as the standard for state and local government web content and mobile apps. After the Department of Justice's one-year extension in April 2026, compliance dates are April 26, 2027 for governments serving 50,000 or more people and April 26, 2028 for smaller governments and special districts. Federal agencies follow Section 508 instead. Sessions cover what the rule means for the PDFs, videos, social posts and emergency alerts residents depend on every day.

Do I need to be an accessibility or AI specialist to attend?+

No. This training is built for communicators, not technical specialists. Sessions cover public trust, AI, digital content and accessibility from the communications side, with practical tools you can use whether you are a team of one or a large department.

How can I get approval to attend?+

Download the justification letter template on this page. It is a ready-to-edit letter you can personalize and send to your manager, or attach to your agency's training request form, to make the case for attending.

Need Leadership Approval?

Attending a conference, workshop, training, or seminar is the perfect way to gain new knowledge, meet likeminded professionals, expand your skillset, and expose yourself to new perspectives in your field. However, while you may see the benefits of attending an event, getting the “thumbs up” from management may take a bit of convincing.
