Why Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Matters with Internal Communications

While it seems there are many conversations happening about diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace, few of them focus on what companies can actually do and how to get that work done. When it’s all said and done, why should you care about diversity, equity, and inclusion?

ALI Conferences distributed a survey asking other Internal Communication professionals what their company’s 2021 DEI focus was. The results are as follows:

The truth is, having a diverse team, brand, and company can be beneficial in the long run. You can receive countless brainstorming ideas, unique viewpoints, and so much more. Any diverse group can show signs of a healthy and collaborative environment. Your business can showcase different creative attitudes and create a welcoming atmosphere any employee would want to join.

Too often businesses start from an economic standpoint when it comes to heavy decisions. Instead, we should start from a social one. That’s why the most important benefit of diversity, equity, and inclusion is by creating an actively inclusive workplace. Through this, you’ll directly create room for productive dialogues in tackling prejudice throughout your workforce.

Business decisions in the past and present have been deliberately made to exclude and discriminate. That’s why leadership teams should not only have the conversation for diversity, equity, and inclusion but be decisive and prioritize inclusion.
