Tom White is the Social Media/Web Content Coordinator for the Public Affairs Office of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). As such, he maintains FHWA’s Social Media presence and provides daily materials to post. Additionally he monitors insights and devises marketing strategies; edits video clips and captions them for 508 compliancy; writes articles for publications; and works with senior leadership to help craft Agency message. He helped author FHWA’s Social Media Directive, and was a recipient of the 2011 Federal Highway Administration Administrator’s Superior Achievement Award.
Prior to joining civil service, Tom worked in the private sector as an audio engineer and video editor for a multi-million dollar video production house based in Baltimore. He has worked on a number of projects from television commercials for a major grocery food chain, to running 24-foot television trucks and multi-State ISDN lines for live sports broadcasts for both ESPN and the Outdoor Life Network.
Prior to joining FHWA, Tom was also a freelance Multimedia Artist, and used software programs such as Adobe Director and Flash to create instructional and promotional multimedia CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs. Clients included Baltimore Gas and Electric (BG&E) and CMP Book Publishing (instructional DVD-ROM on Adobe Photoshop).
Tom has a B.A. in Professional Writing from Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, WV (minor in Psychology); and an Associate’s Degree in Multimedia from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.
