Dennis Royalty

Dennis Royalty joined Eli Lilly and Company’s employee communications team in 2001. For most of his nearly 13 years with Lilly he has been a writer/editor for LillyNews, the company’s flagship global email publication for employees. Dennis is a business-journalism graduate of Indiana University. He was a reporter/editor for The Indianapolis Star for 27 years, 10 as city editor. He wrote a weekly column during his last six years with the newspaper while serving as a suburban bureau chief.

Dennis began his professional career as a sportswriter in Bloomington, Indiana, and was one of the first to cover Bob Knight after Knight became Indiana’s head basketball coach. Others he’s interviewed included Father Theodore Hesburgh, Neil Armstrong, and another astronaut, Janice Voss, interviewed when she was a student at Purdue University who hoped to one day become part of the space program. Janice wound up logging 49 days and 19 million miles in space and twice was a payload commander for NASA flights. Also: Dennis and his wife, Ginger (mostly Ginger) have fostered 80 puppies for the Indianapolis Humane Society in the past three years at their home in Fishers, Indiana.
