Hang Liu

Hang Liu has shaped messaging and communications strategies for two cabinet secretaries, the leaders of global businesses and major nonprofit organizations, and a presidential campaign.

Today, he is director of speechwriting at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In this position, he supports HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge in championing all housing related-initiatives of the Biden-Harris administration.

Before his current role, Hang was a director with West Wing Writers—a progressive speechwriting firm whose clients include many of the world’s most prominent executives, entertainers, and philanthropists. Prior to West Wing, he was director of speechwriting at the Center for American Progress, the nation’s leading progressive think tank.

Hang previously served at HUD as a presidential management fellow and speechwriter for then-Secretary Julián Castro. In 2016, he joined the communications team at the headquarters of the Hillary for America campaign, where he helped prepare Hillary Clinton for her national media interviews.

Hang is a graduate of Harvard College and Brooklyn Law School. The son of Chinese immigrants, he was born and raised in New York City.
