How To Integrate Storytelling With a Focus on the Employee Voice Into Your Employee Communications Strategy - American Medical Association
Jonathan Koshy, Specialist, Employee Communications & Engagement | American Medical Association
Kelly King Johnson, Manager, Employee Communications & Engagement | American Medical Association
The American Medical Association launched "Tell Us" and "Views from the Couch "series. This series helped them to recognize that they needed to connect their colleagues. So, they invited employees to share interests and important happenings in their lives – and their strategic work -- through video interviews, photos, selfie videos, and written content.
From this, AMA was able to:
Capture authentic stories and opinions
Set clear guidelines and expectations with content contributors
Create an editorial calendar and be consistent
*BONUS EXTENDED SESSION
Everyone has something important and engaging to share, whether you’re an employee or the CEO. We created a video montage titled “I Wear a Mask for…” featuring employee-submitted videos as a way to support the AMA’s #MaskUp national campaign, which aimed to increase community masking to protect against the spread of COVID-19. We also ended 2020 with a heartfelt video message from our CEO, using the iconic cue card scene from “Love Actually” as inspiration to personally thank employees for enduring a challenging yet impactful year.
This story will share how to:
Leverage your company or brand’s mission as a way to inspire employees to share and act
Use tools like Microsoft’s Yammer app to build a strong community and bring “water cooler talk” into our remote work lives
When leadership becomes relatable and accessible, a culture shift will take place
